Who We Are
Animate Orchestra is a partnership between Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (Trinity Laban), London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) and participating local authorities, with associate partners Southbank Centre and the British Music Experience at the O2.
Animate Orchestra was launched in 2010 with Lewisham Music Service and Greenwich Music Service as part of a new music partnership supported by the Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians. We have since secured funding from Youth Music (2011-12) and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation (2012-14), allowing us to extend and develop the programme in these boroughs.
In September 2012, Animate Orchestraexpanded to four boroughs for a pilot year, in partnership with Lambeth Music Service and Southwark Music Service.
Our two performing ensembles, Animate Orchestra EAST and Animate Orchestra WEST performed together for the first time in a showcase at Blackheath Halls, April 2013.
The aims of the Animate Orchestra partnership are:
- To create a local progression route for motivated and talented young musicians to support continued instrumental learning
- To represent the diverse talents and ideas of children and young people, giving artistic input into the music they make and perform, with opportunities for Arts Award accreditation
- To inspire young people, through access to live professional performance and opportunities to perform alongside world class professional musicians
Building on the success of Animate Orchestra, the six partners are beginning to plan other ways of working together as the South Riverside Music Partnership.
Animate Orchestra is supported by The Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Lewisham Council
